One of the main attractions of Kalavryta is the railway link to it which runs from Diakofto, a station on the main line from Patras to Athens. It winds its way through the Vourkaikos Gorge for 22km to Kalavrita. The railway is famous for the stunning and sometimes heart stopping views down into the gorge.
Kalavryta is the one place on our travel guide we haven’t visited ourselves yet, simply because we’ve never got to that part of the North coast of the Peloponnese. By all accounts the mountain scenery, villages and railway line are wonderful to experience. For an enjoyable description the railway, Kalavryta and the area see Matt Barrett’s travel guide
