The Tagetos mountains rise up from the west coast of the Mani and have peaks over 2000m high. The area around Kardomili and Stoupa has become a popular base for walking holidays, the combination of mountains, valleys and sea makes for breathtaking scenery.
Stoupa was a small fishing village no so many years ago and has become a busy tourist resort, now badly overcrowded in the peak season. Kardomili is much more pleasant with a couple of nice cafes down by the water – there is no beach. The ruins of the old town of Kardomili, behind the main road are worth exploring. From this area there are many small mountain villages to visit and mapped out hill walks to follow.
To fully explore the area you’ll need a car or plenty of time and good boots.
